Recent Projects

First I have to say that my husband was very recently on vacation…I was supposed to get a lot done…some got done and some didn’t.  I had my father build some things for me and they did get painted and placed.  The first is a shelf set up for under our tv upstairs, as the old set up was driving me bonkers!  I had electronics piled on more electronics and stuff was starting to not work as it didn’t like being piled on.  We have a tivo, bluray, dvd, surround sound setup, xbox, xbox 360, hd player, gamecube, jaguar, and 2 to 3 selectors.  So we needed something more organized and that looked nicer, and I think we accomplished that!!

The other thing I had my father build is a shelf for the shoes that end up in a pile behind our front door…also driving me nuts!  Now it looks so much better and I love it!  The shoes are no longer piled and may be the dog will stop untying my shoes!

I also made a special bag for my mother for Mother’s Day this year…and I have been sewing my fingers to the bone to get it done.  It is a family tree, each of the colored branches represent one of her children, and each button on the branch represent their children and her grandchildren.  My parents have 22 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild on the way.  There is no other way to sew buttons on, so my fingers are almost raw!  She saw it and cried…mission accomplished!

With my working in buttons, I have also been making button flowers…I love these so much that I asked my husband to get me a gift card to Jo-Annes for Mother’s Day so that I could get more buttons to make more flowers.  I love buttons so much!!  Apparently when I was very young my mother brought me home a bag of buttons from a second hand store in Salt Lake, and I carried them around in a little suitcase.  I have always loved buttons!!

So this is what I have been doing lately…I have also recently discovered that they make Hello Kitty Duct Tape.  I have been searching high and low for this stuff, and I have decided that I will just have to buy it on Target.com…6 rolls for $33.  I guess I will find something to do with 6 rolls of Hello Kitty Duct Tape…this is a challenge I am up to!!

60 day picture challenge...

My niece posted this thing on Facebook and I was reading through it and I just loved it, the whole idea behind it and the questions that are asked.  So I decided that I would do this as well, what I will do is edit this post every day with a new picture and whatever explanation it asks for.

Day 01 - A picture of yourself with fifteen facts.
Facts:  1.  I was not born in a hospital...I was born on my parents bed.
           2.  I grew up in the middle of a forest...until I was 12.
           3.  I loathe having glue on my hands.
           4.  I love making art.
           5.  I love hidden pictures games like Mystery Case Files
           6.  I dreamed about my daughter when I was in High School.
           7.  I LOVE buttons, and have since before I can remember.
           8.  I have a B.A. in Psychology, with minors in both Art and History.
           9.  I have toys displayed on shelves in my house.
         10.  I have a lifetime pass to Legoland.
         11.  I love video games, and own more than most stores.
         12.  I am afraid of the dentist.
         13.  I love orange cream
         14.  My favorite color is pink.
         15.  I collect McDonalds toys.

Day 02 - A picture of you and the person you have been close with for the longest.
This is my mother, the wisest most wonderfulest woman I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.  No one in this world has been closer to me any longer than her.  She suffered much to bring me into this world and even more to keep me healthy.  When I went to school I worried about what Mom would do without me...she has truly been my friend and confidant the longest.  In honor of Mother's Day I put her here, I love her more than words can say.  When I was young she used to ask me if I was going to be around to wipe the drool from her face, and I have always known that I would be that person.  Thanks Mom, I love you!!

Day 03 - A picture of the cast from your favorite show.
Yes, my favorite show is Criminal Minds...probably because they always get the bad guy...and there is the whole psychological aspect as well.  I loved when Gideon was still on the show, but when Rossi came on it gave the show a whole new feel and I love it now too.

Day 04 - A picture of your night.
Ok, so I interpreted this to mean what I did or do at night, as the night sky is kind of hard to take a picture of.  So last night my husband and I had avocado dip with doritos and watched #*%@ My Dad Says.  That show is the first sitcom in years that actually makes me laugh...I think it is William Shatner in it.  Then we played Lego Batman for a while, which I have been enjoying playing a game with my husband which I never get to do much anymore.

Day 05 - A picture of your favorite memory.
This was the night that we were finally able to bring our Casey bug home from Loma Linda NICU.  She had spent 2 weeks there, and Ryane and I were staying in the Ronald McDonald house while she was there.  We got a phone call from the Dr early that morning saying that we could take her home that day if we got everything done that we needed to do, we finally made it home around 6 pm and Grandma and Grandpa were there within 10 minuets wanting to hold the baby.  This is truly my favorite memory!

Day 06 - A picture of a person you'd love to trade places with for a day.
This is probably the hardest question that I have ever had to answer.  I don't really want to be someone else for any amount of time, but if I had to then it would be Princess Peach.  She is princess of a kingdom where a whole lot of short men in funny hats do everything for her.  She is also strong and can win her very own games and rescue Mario when called upon to do so!

Day 07 - A picture of your most treasured item.
So I am really peaved...I did this one and the next one the last couple of days, but apparently blogger screwed up my blog!!  Idiots!!  My laptop is my most treasured item.

Day 08 - A picture that makes you laugh.
We were watching amazing race one night and Angie stuck this bath pillow on her forehead...She will kill me when she sees it, but hey, she is gone!!  I just love my Angie!!

Day 09 - A picture of the person who has gotten you through the most.
So I think this is equally split between my Angie and my husband...They have both gotten me through some really tough things...different but equal.

Day 10 - A picture of the person you do the most messed up things with.
This is a picture of me (I'm the little blond girl) and my older sister, Cher.  I spent a whole lot of time thinking about this one and the only thing I am going to say about why I chose her is shoe shopping.

Day 11 - A picture of something you hate.
No, it is not cute, it is not furry, and it is NOT a pet.  It is vermin and it carries disease and lice!!  It is a PEST to be exterminated!  When I was pregnant with Casey we were living in my parents trailer for a little while...I discovered that Logan had brought a little toy in before he left.  I was on the phone with mom when I screamed, she was halfway there before I was able to tell her that there was a mouse in the trailer.

Day 12 - A picture of something you love.
I love buttons, all kinds of buttons, all shapes and colors!!  I make things out of them and just generally enjoy playing with them.  My mother brought me some when I was like 2 and I carried them around in a little suitcase.

Day 13 - A picture of your favorite band or artist.
After much deliberation in my own head, I decided that my favorite is Elton John.  He was the first concert I ever went to with my crazy sister who nearly got in a fist fight with some one who made her miss her favorite song, "Levon" because they were talking behind us and wouldn't shut up and she went and got an usher to have them removed.  But that is a story for a different blog...I think Elton John has a song for any and all occasions, from births to weddings to funerals.  He has a song for every mood as well, for me if all else fails I turn to Elton John!

Day 14 - A picture of someone you could never imagine your life without.
There are 3 people that I couldn't imagine my life without:  My husband Ryane, my 4 year old daughter Casey, and my 14 month old son Ryan.

Day 15 - A picture of something you want to do before you die.
I want to tour Europe before I die!  I want to see the art of France and Italy, the philosophy and history of Greece, and the wonderment of everything else.  I want to see "David" before I die...I want to see the Sistine Chapel...I want to see the Mona Lisa...I want to see England...I want to see the Colosseum...I want to see the temples of Zeus and Apollo...There are so many things I would likely have to spend months there.

Day 16 - A picture of someone who inspires you.
Ok, so I wasn't sure if I should pick someone who is alive or not...so I have two...
First the person who has always inspired me...Vincent VanGogh, and no I don't want to hear the tirade on "Oh that was that crazy painter who cut his own ear off and killed himself"...because in that one statement you are showing your utter ignorance of him.  1st:  to be an artist you have to be a little...or a lot crazy.  2nd:  No one knows why he did what he did, no one was with him when they happened, so who is anyone to judge him.  3rd:  I have had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stand in front of his paintings (unfortunately behind glass), and they are awe inspiring...I cried because I was touched so deeply.
Second, a living person who inspires me...Thomas S. Monson, Prophet of the LDS church.  I love the way he always seems to be smiling, and like Jesus, always seems to love being around children.  Nevermind that he can wiggle his ears!!

Day 17 - A picture of something that has made a huge impact on your life recently.
My brother in law committed suicide in January...I have written several blogs about this, if you are interested read those blogs over the last few months.  It is what has made the biggest impact in my life recently.

Day 18 - A picture of your biggest insecurity.
So I have what is called a baby belly...I have had 2 babies now and I can't like it my baby belly!  I put Fat Albert as the picture because there is no way that I was going to take a picture of my fat and post it on the internet!

Day 19 - A picture of you when you were little.
So here is a picture of me as  little bugger...in my big bird hat!  I would pay a fortune right now for a hat like that, I love it that much.  I have no idea what happened to my big bird hat, but I miss it!

Day 20 - A picture of somewhere you'd love to travel.
That is a picture of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York...home of Starry Starry Night!  I want for to go to this worship site for artists!

Day 21 - A picture of something you wish you could forget.
I wish I could forget the smell of a dead person...I can't seem to forget the smell of when we first entered Jasone's room.

Day 22 - A picture of something you wish you were better at.
I wish I was better at being a mom...everyone says I am doing a good job, but I feel like I am crap at it.

Day 23 - A picture of your favorite book.
"Fork over the pork you walking milk machine, or I'll curdle your cream!"  This is my favorite book...I really struggled over this one.  I thought about Harry Potter 3, Hannibal, and several other that I love.  But in the end Piggie Pie won out!

Day 24 - A picture of something you wish you could change.
I struggled with this one all day...I thought of my kitchen counter tops, they are a little dark for my liking.  But in the end I decided on my stairs...carpeted stairs are great for so many reasons, BUT I hate vacuuming them!!  I wish I could change them to hard wood flooring instead.

Day 25 - A picture of your day.
Today is Sunday, so I start my day with church at 9am to noon.  After a few hours at home my husband and I usually go and visit his mom so she can see the kids.  When we get home we spend time with the kids and then head to bed.

Day 26 - A picture of something that means a lot to you.
This is my picture window...I love this window more than anything else in this house...it was the selling point for me.  This is right outside my bedroom door, so every morning I look out it and can see the weather and enjoy the sky and clouds.  At night I can see the stars, at the 4th of July I can see fireworks, and at christmas time I can see the lights!

Day 27 - A picture of yourself and a family member.
This was at my wedding...and that is my Granny.  I have the honor of being the only one of my mother's children that had her in the temple when I was married.  My brother's can't say that, because she didn't go through the temple until she was over 80 years old.  She died in April of 2007, and I miss her greatly.

Day 28 - A picture of something you're afraid of.
I have a phobia of dental work, dental offices, and dental chairs.  This has been since my harrowing experience as a child...usually I have to be on valium before anything is done, even a cleaning.

Day 29 - A picture that can always make you smile.
This was our wedding day at the San Diego Temple on October 15, 2005.  We had been through oodles of pictures, and he kissed me on the nose...I love this picture.

Day 30 - A picture of someone you miss.
The oldest lady in this picture is my granny, who died in 2007 at 90 years old, I miss her.  Then there is my mother, and the other 2 ladies are my older sisters, Cindy and Cher...I miss them terribly.  For stupid reasons they won't speak to me anymore and I often cry because of how much I miss them.

Day 31 - A picture of a tradition you have.
Our tradition for Christmas is that each year we buy a keepsake ornament for us and one for each child.  Usually it is something meaningful for us, for example our first year we were married we got a Cinderella one.  The next year we got a Thumper in love one for us and a Dumbo one for Casey because when she was in the hospital I would sing her "Baby Mine" while I was holding her.  Anyway, we figured that would give the kids lots of ornaments to have for their first Christmas trees.

Day 32 - A picture of a crazy night.
This is my forever punishment for the last "crazy night" that I had.  I don't remember much...doritos...a pie...hmmm.  Anyway I am left having to listen to the song "What's Up" by 4 Non Blondes...every time it comes on I must crank the volume and sing at the top of my lungs.  I don't know why this compulsion comes over me, because HOLY CRAP!  That song sucks.  I figure it is God's way of reminding me that I shouldn't do that again.

Day 33 - A picture of the house you grew up in.
This is the house that I consider home...I was born in this house, and lived there until I was almost 13 years old.  This house is 13 miles outside a very small town in Northern Idaho, about 1 hour south of the Canadian border.  When I was 6 months into Jr. High my parents piled me and the cat into the Shadow and drove us to Orange County California, where I finished High School and started college.

"Cry, the beloved country, for the unborn child that is the inheritor of fear.  Let him not love the earth too deeply.  Nor stand too silent when the setting sun makes red the veld with fire.  Let him not laugh too gladly when the water runs through his fingers, let him not be too moved when the birds of his land are singing, nor give too much of his heart to a mountain or a valley for fear will rob him of all if he gives too much,"
--Cry, The Beloved Country  by Alan Paton

Day 34 - A picture of your currently most played CD.
First off I no longer listen to cd's, I have an ipod and itunes on my computer where the majority of my music library is, which is extensive.  So I sorted it by number of plays then went down that list to see who appears the most often...at that seems to be Sting.

Day 35 - A picture of your favorite place to eat.
This is like my default location, whenever Ryane takes me out to eat and asks where I want to go this is the first place that enters in my mind.

Day 36 - A picture of your ‘other half'.
Yep, that is MY sexy beast that helped me make those 2 gorgeous children that I have!!

Day 37 - A picture of the people you spend most of your time with.
Being the mother of 2 small children, who else would I spend the majority of my time with?!

Day 38 - A picture of the best part of your day.
Do you see how the nearest door is closed and the farthest door is closed...well those are my children's rooms and they are both behind those doors asleep!  This is my favorite part of everyday!

Day 39 - A picture of your favorite movie.
Ever since I was 10 years old My Fair Lady has been my favorite movie.  I watched it every day that summer and I LOVE it.  I have it memorized, and I sing along!  As far as I am concerned Audrey Hepburn is the most beautiful woman who has ever walked this earth!

Day 40 - A picture of your favorite Disney character.
My favorite disney character is Ariel, as the Little Mermaid is my most favorite disney movie.  This is actually a painting done by an artist that I recently discovered that I love, his name is Tim Rogerson.  If you love disney, you would love this artist and his artwork!  Unfortunately they don't yet make a print of this painting and the original is like $5000, so I can't have it in my home yet.

Day 41 - A picture of your pet.
While I was on heavy pain medication for an extended period of time last September we drove to Riverside and paid a large sum of money for a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, whom we named Barkley.  At some point after the surgery I awoke in my bed to find him laying next to me, this surprised me for some reason and I looked at Ryane and said "We bought a dog?!?...when did we do this?".  Apparently making decisions like that should NOT be made when having to use pain meds.  Oh well, we love him to death and would never give him up!

Day 42 - A picture of your dream house.
I love houses that have character...that are different!  I don't really have one particular house that I would call my dream house, so I looked up Victorian houses on the internet, and I love the way this one looks.  It's not that I don't love my house, but my house is not unique at all!  There are a whole ton of houses in this area that look exactly like it.  I can't paint it purple or pink, so I have to just deal!

Day 43 - A picture of something you can’t function without.
I can't function without my computer...this house wouldn't function without my computer, it is the momma-puter!  We do our banking and pay our bills with my computer.  When my computer is down the house seems to go down...although it is better now that I have my laptop.

Day 44 - A picture of someone you’re told you look like.
This is my Grandpa, Eugene Northrup.  My mom has always said I look like him, when I was a baby my mom had a old picture of him when he was a baby in an old baby buggy.  Her mom came to visit and wanted to know where she got the old buggy to have my picture taken in.  This is a picture that hangs in my home, and my son carries his name.  He died before I was born, but I have always felt a closeness to him.

Day 45 - A picture of your room.
Yep, our enormous bed which is not enormous enough!  The room is actually quite larger, but that would take way more pictures!

Day 46 - A picture of where you wish you were right now.
I wish I had a clawfoot tub!  I wish I were laying in a nice hot tub of water and that tub was this tub!  We had one in our house growing up and I wish I could have one now!

Day 47 - A picture of your favorite place to shop.
So I love to shop at Target, I love their deals and their clearance items.  I also use Target brand everything in my house.

Day 48 - A picture of your favorite actress/actor.
My all time favorite actor, Cary Grant.  When I get depressed I put in a Cary Grant movie and smile the whole way through.  One of my favorites that he ever did is called "People Will Talk"...if you haven't seen it then please make a point to.  He had so much fun making it, but was so criticized for it.

Day 49 - A picture of where you live.
This is our house!  It is just over 3000 square feet and a bear to clean.  The garage is 800 square feet, 4 car, tandem, with a door at the back.  And I have a cupboard under the stairs!

Day 50 - A picture of your most frequented place.
Okay I am being realistic here, but think...where do you go more often than the bathroom?

Day 51 - A picture of your dream car.
A 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback...I first saw it when I watched Spenser For Hire with my mom...fell IN LOVE!!!  I want one of these so that I can make love to my husband in the backseat, so I can crank the radio and speed all over the place in it, and so I can say I own one!

Day 52 - A picture of your favorite sport.
First, I don't like sports...I don't play them and I don't watch them.  But let me tell you why...I refuse to play anything where balls of any size fly at my head!  That being said, I like drag racing.  I wanted for years to be a driver, but now my body is not my own and am unable to take the risk.  I love the top fuel dragsters...they make my heart smile every time I see one roar down the 1/4 mile!

Day 53 - A picture of someone you think is hot.
This is the only person that I think is hot...boring I know, but true all the same.

Day 54 - A picture of the one thing you would bring if you were stranded on a deserted island.
DUH!!  A boat with a gps!

Day 55 - A picture of the last movie you saw in theaters.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 was the last movie we saw in a theater...although I am a little disappointed that this was today, because we are taking Casey to see...
on Wednesday!

Day 56 - A picture of something that makes you happy.
I love Legoland!  It makes me happy every time we go, and we go often because we have lifetime passes!  So I am gonna be an 85 year old biddy going to Legoland for my birthday!

Day 57 - A picture of your favorite holiday.
My favorite holiday is Christmas.  and Christmas for me is all about santa and snowmen and christmas trees!

Day 58 - A picture of your favorite animal.
My favorite animal is the Polar Bear.  They are giant white and fuzzy and I love them!!

Day 59 - A picture of a random item that you own.

Day 60 - A picture of something you’re excited about
I got my husband tickets to comic con this year for his birthday...and in a few weeks we will be attending the largest comic convention in the world!!!   They will have the new Thundercats there and I am most excited!!

Thanks to everyone for enjoying this with me, I have had a great time doing it and I hope you have all enjoyed reading it.
